Most art ideas are for individuals, whether they are kids or adults. Sometimes you want a technology idea that works for a group of kids together. Making a joint drawing is an idea that works for a group. When you work together, you create something that decorates a shared space. Individual works of art can also be displayed, but a single piece is often more effective than a group of similar works. Plus, sometimes kids' technology, like it or not, becomes a mess when they get it home before mom throws it away. This group photo craft idea can be seen for weeks and won't clutter anyone's home.
The basic material of the children's group mirror is freezer paper. The freezer paper is about 18 inches wide and very sturdy. One side is plastic. This is the side that should be placed on the food. You'll have better luck drawing and posting on the other side. Class or group pictures can contain many different patterns. You can mix up some finger paint and let the kids make a sketch (or even a mark!) on the paper. You can let the
draw in old, discarded magazines and coloring books and let it cut and paste pictures. Text, designs, signatures, slogans or images can be marked with a pen or gel pen. Stickers can also be stuck on the mirror. This craft idea is very flexible!
To create a mirror, choose a topic that is related to the group in some way. For example, if the group is blind and learning to camp, the sketch might include pictures of items related to camping. If you have already learned about dinosaurs, you can use it as a topic. For a really messy project that makes a beautiful fall mirror, mix your finger paint with fall colors. Children can make a tree by first putting brown paint on their hands. Then they put their hands on the
paper to make the trunk of the tree. Their fingers should be spread so that their hands are over five short branches. To make the leaves, the children trace around the top of the tree with paint of a different fall color. If you add a few drops of washing up liquid to the finger paint when mixing, it is easier to clean from children's hands. Make sure they have old clothes or cigarettes for this craft idea.
Kindergarteners love to make animal-themed drawings. You will probably need to find and cut out pictures of animals from magazines to get started, then let the children choose the ones they would like to post. Glue sticks are safe for small children. They will post some pictures of it. Count and do not scold. This is the key to this crafting concept. Kids can stick the animals on the bottle with cookie cutters dipped in finger paint. You may need to place the paper on the table to keep it from falling while the children work.
